Hi Friends! I have some good news to share. I have found a way to combine my love of sharing God’s life-giving truth through writing with my love of jewelry-making. By handcrafting meaningful pieces, many based on scripture, I am able to associate a physical object with a transformational truth.

These unique and meaningful pieces make ideal Christmas gifts for someone you want to affirm with God’s love and truth, including yourself!
In Deuteronomy 6, God implores his people to keep his statutes and commandments as well as to teach their children so that it might go well with them. We are to speak of those beautiful truths when we sit down, when we walk by the way, when we lie down, and when we rise up. In effect, all the time.
To that end, God urged His people to create visual reminders of these truths, to bind them to their hands and as frontlets between their eyes, and to write them on the posts of their homes and their gates.
What we believe matters. What we choose to think about affects how we feel, treat other people, and even what we will dare to attempt with our lives. Sometimes debilitating lies creep into our thinking, lies that can only be rooted out with the countervailing truth.
For years, I was steeped in such toxic messages about myself that I believed my presence on the earth was not needed and that even the air I breathed was wasted. Such poisonous thoughts can lead any of us to a very dark place. I’m emerging now from a long, dark season of believing falsehoods, particularly about who I am and my worth.
Dear ones, if you struggle with thoughts like these, please know that they don’t come from the Lover of our Souls, but from the Enemy of them. He is the one who comes to steal, kill, and destroy.
The good news is that there is an antidote to this poison: God’s Word, what He says is true of Himself, of you and me, and of our futures. Jesus truly is our rescue.
God is not surprised by our proclivity to believe falsehoods about ourselves or Him. He knows our hearts are prone to wander. He also knows that if we can’t see straight, we can’t hope to walk straight which is why He implores us to meditate on His beautiful truth, to speak it and sing it, memorize it, and gather with other believers to think on and celebrate what is true. God even encourages us to create physical reminders of these truths that we keep before our eyes.
Abuse survivors have shared with me that they need these constant reminders of who God says they are to counter the destructive messages they have absorbed into their psyches from years of mistreatment, often from people who claim to love them.
Recently, I wore a brass cuff I made with ‘You are inscribed on the palm of my hand,’ etched into it. Throughout the day, every time it caught my eye, I felt a spark of joy as I remembered, I am loved. The God of the Universe loves ME!
I want these lovingly made creations to call to the wearer’s mind truth about who God is and who she and to inspire worship and joy. As the wearer touches the beads around her neck and feels their coolness against her skin, catches a glimpse of her bracelet on her wrist or of sees her earrings in a mirror, or smells the fragrance of lavender on her aromatherapy jewelry, may they serve to ground her in truth in those moments.
And, as others notice and compliment these inspired pieces, I pray she has the opportunity to share with others the truths they represent, perhaps even to other survivors who need truth to be a plumbline by which they rebuild their broken lives.
